TAU President David Zwart |
Your bargaining team reports that our collective actions
over the past few weeks have succeeded in communicating
the urgency of the situation to the WMU negotiating team.
While they now appear to understand our commitment to
getting a fair contract by April 20th, a great deal of
work still needs to be accomplished. It is crucial that
we maintain and increase the pressure on the administration.
A General Membership Meeting is being planned for Friday,
April 20 to vote on the administration’s last, best
offer. If we decide not to accept that offer, we will
also vote on the next course of action. At Sunday’s
union meeting, we discussed at length the administration’s
slow response to our proposal. We wanted to be able to
show the administration we have power and the greatest
power a union has is withholding labor. Discussions centered
around what the best methods would be to accomplish this
task with great concern for undergraduates. The consensus
was that refusing to proctor exams would make a strong
statement at a critical time of the year. As a democratic
organization, these decisions must be made by all of us.
Another union meeting will be held on Sunday, April 15
at 3:00 in the TAU offices. All members are encouraged
to participate in this meeting.
